Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with Campylobacter a few months back. I had irregular bowel movements with blood. It would start solid then become very loose and pencil thin... I was having 2-3 bowel movements a day. Then after diagnosed they put me in meds. The problems subside but now I m still have multiple bowel movements a day and they come on very fast. Today I almost didn t get to a bathroom.. it was like I exploded... it was pencil thin. I felt very light headed. My skin felt clammy. I felt like it was having contraction in my lower gut. Burning sensations in rectum and also down my legs and in my feet. Thought I was going to pass out... had another bm about 10 minutes later... felt the same way... is it IBS? Could it be colorectal cancer??
From your symptoms it looks like a Irritable Bowel which is a very long term issue and needs constant therapy. The chances of colotectal cancer are rare but it must be evaluated further.
Unfortunately to date, there is no permanent cure for the problem and it's management relies on diet and lifestyle modifications along with certain medications.
Diet and Lifestyle Modifications in IBS like avoiding Pulses and Beans, food with high amounts of refined sugars will help.
Medications in IBS like Loperamide (Brand Name: Eldoper) has been used in the management of IBS with diarrhea.
But it must be used with caution because the more you use it, the higher risk of getting an infection in your bowels. Also you have been already diagnosed campylobacter.
Antispasmodics like Mebeverine (Brand Name: COLOSPA) has also been used to regulate the bowel movements.
