my husband and I have had a terrible chest cold for about 4 weeks we just cough and run a low grade fever , our little grandchildren 4 % 7 had viral ammonia and they my have givin it to us in our late 60 s was looking for over the counter best tablet or cold to relieve mucus in chest and cough

Considering your age, please do not take over the counter medication for a self diagnosed respiratory infection. Please visit a doctor /pulmonologist to get evaluated and an antibiotic started in case of an infection. After the infection is controlled, you can consider flu and pneumococcal vaccinations too.
