I am 3 months pregnant and I have been coughing alot and tonight my ear started bleeding for a second and when I blew my nose earlier there was some blood. No I have not had any loud noises, blow to the face or ear note did I stick anything in my ear or anything up my nose... is the coughing related to the bloody ear and should I be worried
Hi. Read and understood your history of pregnancy of 3 months. First of all remember that the pregnancy brings natural changes all over the body due to hormonal changes, one of them is the tympanic membranes become very thin. If you get an upper respiratory tract infection or so or if you blow the nose can be a problem and the pressure transmitted through the Eustachian tube can easily rupture the tympanic membrane . The ruptured tympanic membrane can have bleeding which can come out of the ear or through the Eustachian tube into the oral cavity. The coughing has increased this problem. Consult an ENT Surgeon and get examined and diagnosed and take medicines only after consultation of your Gynecologist for suitability of the medicines as per the dates /trimester of pregnancy which should be safe .
