Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could having swallowed a piece of metal that was fished out of the intestines at the age of 12 cause chronic diarrhea in a patient? The GI doctor is wanting to put him on Lotronex; not currently approved for males and he has no other symptoms of IBS and suffers only from chronic diarrhea.....
Hello Alicia Looking at your description it might be related to infection like liver infection, malaria or intestinal infection
If I were your treating doctor I would have advised you for a battery of tests like blood of hemoglobin, CBC, Liver function test, Peripheral blood smear for malaria parasite, urine microscopy and an ultrasound if need be.
Meanwhile you should take anti acidity medicines like pantoprazole or ranitidine group of drugs with antacids for 3 to 5 days You should take multivitamin supplements Have lots of fluids including ORS and fruit juices to counter dehydration and electrolytic imbalances.
I hope you will find my response informative and helpful Please feel free to ask for follow up question I will happily answer you. wish you good health
