Hi....my 15 year old daughter has had headaches for 2 years. An MRI showed retrocereblar CSF like fluid collection. There is mild scalloping of the adjacent inner table and slightly elevation of the adjacent tentotium making the possibility of an arachnoid cyst. What should be the next procedure done by the doctors?
I read your question carefully and I understans your concern.
Arachnoid cyst is a very common finding present in many people and in most cases they do not cause any symptom at all, one can lead a normal life and not need anything to be done. It could well be that it has been an incidental finding and has no relation with her headaches so you shouldn't worry.
However tonsay for sure whether this is one of these cases where no further steps are needed or is one of the few ones where the cyst is of big dimensions and/or in a critical area I am afraid the MRI images should be looked in more detail, the info you have provided is not enough about that.
So you will need to consult those images with a neurologist or neurosurgeon eventually, but in the mind time keep in mind that in the overwhelming majority of the cases no treatment is needed for an arachnoid cyst, no reason to panic.
I hope to have been of help.
