Suggest Treatment For Chronic Pancreatitis

I have chronic pancreatitis and have had for twelve years. Three years ago I had 70 percent of my pancreas removed and my spleen. I still have severe flare ups requiring ER visits for pain relief. My Dr. told me he could remove the remainder of my pancreas but made no promises it would stop the everyday pain I live with, however, it would stop the severe flare ups. I`m 60, what quality of life can I expect if I elect to do this?

Hi. I don't know about your pacreatic enzymes therapy (replacement therapy), but with high dosis we can influence somehow the pain. As for the removing of the remained part of your pancreas I'd calm you that is not such a great problem because of the above mentioned replacement therapy, but I'd like to suggest to discuss with your doctor if celiac plexus block or a stent placement in the narrowed part of your pancreatic duct(if there is)would be a first choice in your case.
