I have had cluster headaches on the right side of my head for the last 12-13 years. I am now finding that the whites of my right eye turn blood red at the onset of the headache. Is this normal for a cluster headache or should I be concerned that something else might be occurring?
I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you are having cluster headache for last 12-13 years. The response to your query is as follows. The redness of the eyes at the onset of the headache is not seen in primary headaches like cluster headache. We need to rule out the ocular causes like prodromal attacks of acute congestive glaucoma or narrow angle glaucoma. Hence this requires evaluation by a ophthalmologist by simple tests like intraocular pressure measurement, gonioscopy and visual field testing to rule out glaucoma and treatment accordingly.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly. Hope this answers your question. Do write back to me for further questions.
