Hi, I was recently diagnosed with cluster headaches due to severe head pressure that has been lasting for weeks. They come and go during each day. I was given a medicine called Butyl-Acet-Cuff which seems to be helping. Does this sound like a correct assumption of what it is? CT scan came back normal. Do feelings of panic and anxiety also go along with cluster headaches?
Treatment of cluster headache is for relief of acute headache and also preventive medicine so that cluster headache frequency decreases with ongoing treatment.
Treatment of attacks: 1. 100 % oxygen via a mask 2. subcutaneous injections of sumatriptan 3. 1 ml lidocaine 4 % intranasally
Transitional treatment:(till preventive medicines become effective) 1. Prednisolone (60 – 80 mg/day) for five days with subsequent reduction by 10 mg every second day.
Preventive Treatment: 1. Verapamil 2. Lithium
