Suggest Treatment For Cold And Cough In A Child

My nine month old twins are having cold, cough and fever for the past three days. They are active and eating well though. The doctor has prescribed Febrex plus along with C-Taxo for congestion. My son throws up Febrex plus as soon as we give him the medicine. Is there any other alternative? Should i be worried?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This suggests a respiratory infection, most of which are viral and need no antibiotics. When needed, Amoxycillin or Amoxyclav is better than C-Taxo (Cefixime) for chest infections. As they are active and playful, we need not worry now. Just continue drugs as per advice. If fever continues beyond 4-5 days, they develops breathing difficulty or becomes dull and not feeding well, we will need re-evaluation and management accordingly. If not tolerating Febrex plus, give plain paracetamol instead.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
