Hi,
I need few more clarifications:
Whether it is always associated with fever
Any purulent yellowish nasal discharge or headache?
Cough present always?
Cough throughout the day or only during sleep?
Recurrent cold, if not associated fever/purulent nasal discharge/ cough, we need not worry about. If associated with fever and purulent discharge, we have to evaluate for chronic/
recurrent sinusitis. If cough also present always we also have to think of
allergy and
tuberculosis. Allergy is more likely if he sneezes a lot while in dust, nasal itching is there and similar illness running in family.
Treatment depends on the cause that we identify. If I were your treating after examining nose and chest, I will order some of the basic investigations like blood count + ESR, chest X-ray,
eosinophil count and IgE level, and
mantoux test for TB. You can discuss with your doctor, or get back to us with relevant details.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
