Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father is 84 he was just diagnosed about 30 days ago with congestive heart failure, the told him he has about 15% function they diagnosed a leaky valve, since that time he is retaining water and havin many bouts of shortness of breath. I am a four hour flight away, they said 6 months to a year but he seems to be going downhill very quickly. He is now complaining of kidney pain as well. He is just starting a water pill, could he possibly die much quicker is that a reasonable time for him. He is not overweight in fact he has lost weight I am guessing he is down below 140..he is about 5 10
Yes, Heart Failure may occur with normal ECG. As you said you are a hypertensive which itself may cause Diastolic Dysfunction and Heart Failure.
More productive test would be a good Echocardiographic Examination particularly supported by a Stress Echo to look for any Regional Wall Motion abnormality, any valvular lesion, asessment of Systolic and Diastolic Function.
A blood test called NT-proBNP should also confirm or rule out Incipent Heart Failure.
