I had the Mirena coil fitted 2 months ago and since then I have had continuous bleeding. The doctor prescribed Norethisterone to give me a break. I started taking them yesterday afternoon and by the evening the bleeding had stopped. Howeve this morning I have started bleeding again and it s really heavy. I have continued to take the tablets today and I am still heavily bleeding. When will the bleeding stop?

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcome. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.

I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

I know your frustration and intrauterine contraceptive devices like mirena can sometimes lead to heavy bleeding. It will improve with less or no bleeding at all in coming months. Till then, there are few ways to control your current periods.

If I were your treating physician, I would advise you to take:
• Continue Norethisterone once daily for 7 days. It will help in blood clotting and improve vascular supply to uterine lining.
• Cap. Tranexamic acid 500mg three times daily for 4-7days. It will actively stop bleeding.
• Tab. Ponstan (mefenamic acid) for 4-7 days. It is also help in stopping heavy bleeding.
Iron supplements for blood loss compensation.

You may consult your gynecologist about what to do if you experience heavy bleeding again in future.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Keep a follow up to see how you doing.

Regards!
Dr. Ali Raza
