Suggest Treatment For Constipation In An Elderly Person
My name is Ildiko Kovach. My husband is 86 years old and has advanced AD. He cannot walk and does not drink enough water, thus is chronically constipated. The stool accumulates in his rectum and he cannot push it out. He holds it back often to avoid pain. What can be done? I feed him as much fiber as possible in juices and soups. Suggest a good remedy, please.
Continue with the high fibers and juices. Additionally increase the amount of fluids being taken per oral. Try using Bisacodyl (DULCOLAX), can be taken orally or as a suppository.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
