Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i'm 30 female and just had a colonoscopy for right adominal pain near the belly button. It came on suddenly and I was really constipated, saw blood when I went to the bathroom (on t. papper). It is tender to touch that area. The colonoscopy was normal-good news. Weird thing was even with all the colon prep stuff, it didn't clean me out all the way and the doctor said it was hard to see..should I be worried? Get a second opinion? He wants me to come back in 3 weeks, drink 4 tablespoons of Mylanta for constipation?? I'm usually pretty regular..This came on suddenly. Why 3 weeks? I feel bad. CT scan was normal, he didn't tell me about my blood work except I'm anemic. I'd appreciate some advice. I'm tired of not feeling well. Eating anything more than a small snack can make the pain worse. Right now I'm 5'5 and 100lbs
In your case, blood present in the stool doesn’t seem to be something serious. And in most cases of are benign and include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with the stool softener, diet, and Sitz baths. If there are some other symptoms such as weight loss or pain or inability to have bowel movements, then some further tests should be done. It is common that hard stool leads to bleeding due to fragile hemorrhoids so it is important to soften your stool with an appropriate diet that includes a lot of fluids, probiotics, high fiber food, and stool softeners to avoid hard stool and straining.
If there is no improvement in the next few weeks, then tests required which include colonoscopy and irigography. Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss.
