Suggest Treatment For Constipation

I have been taking Doxazosin 2mg for about 2 weeks. Over the last few days I have found going to the toilet for pooing getting more and more difficult. I sat on the toilet this morning for over an hour and gradually passed hard stools - it was very uncomfortable. Normally I go to the toilet and quickly pass soft stuff, but this is totally different. Should I stop taking these pills? They were to improve urine flow as I have an enlarged prostate.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to side effect of Doxazosin. I recommend using daily probiotics and eat a fiber rich diet with fruits and vegetables. I also recommend drinking liquids.

If the symptoms continue you should consult your doctor about an alternative medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
