Suggest Treatment For Constipation

I am 75 and regulary have problems with constipation. I have a high fibre breakfast every morning, exercise regularly and drink about one and a half litres of water every day. I eat fruit and vegetable I usually counter constipation with psyllium, especially taken in water. But recently this hasn t worked and I have started taking Actilax? I have had a colonoscopy this year - no problems. Actilax is working but I don t want to get hooked on it. Any suggestions, please. Incidentally I am on heart medication but my chemist said these very unlikely to be contributing to constipation. Thanks, John

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist. In this age movements of the intestine becomes slow. Even after taking lots of fibres and fluids in your diet if that is not working, it suggest you will have to take one laxative also. And if Actilax is doing well, then i will suggest you to take it regularly as even in long term it is harmlesss as it hasn't got any systemic absorption. I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health
