Suggest Treatment For Cough And Phlegm In The Chest
My boyfriend has progressively gotten worse symptoms over the past 3days. Hard cough, body aches, difficulties talking, phlegm, lying down causes more coughing. The cough is almost constant. He has taken NyQuil, aspirin, cough drops, Mucinex. Hot showers. Is there anything else he could take to help the miserable symptoms?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. By your history and description, he is mostly having post infectious bronchitis. Bronchitis (inflammation of airways) is common after viral upper respiratory tract infection. So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only. He will need inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone). Don't worry, he will be alright with all these. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your boyfriend. Thanks.
