Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 4 year old has been coughing for about 3 weeks but said he feels fine, so i didnt worry much about it. Now he has said his throat hurts a little, and will hardly eat. but still no fever and says overall he feels ok, just tired and nothing tastes good. Should i wait it out or take him to the dr.?
As per your query you have symptoms of cough and throat pain which seems to be due to viral infection, which usually goes away by its own after completing the course. Need not to worry. For now do warm saline gargles, take over the counter cough syrup and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and swelling. I would suggest you consult ENT specialist gain for proper examination. The doctor may order a test like a throat swab test, viral culture test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis. The doctor may prescribe an antiviral drug like acyclovir and with an anti-inflammatory.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
