Suggest Treatment For Cough With Green Phlegm

Saw a dr last week for what I thought was a sinus infection, was given prednisone and Flonase and told I had sinusitis I m now coughing up large globs of green stuff and have coughed so much I think I ve blown my ear drum should I see another dr for a second opinion?

Yes, you should see another ENT Surgeon for Second Opinion.

The Bright Green color of the nasal discharge is suggestive of infection by atypical bacteria which gives this color to the pus/ secretions. I would advise you to get this Secretion tested for :: Gram Staining . AFB Staining, culture and sensitivity by aerobic and anaerobic culture methods.
The reports will guide for the next type of antibiotic you will be given.
You may have to take the antibiotics for minimum of 3 weeks along with anti-inflammatory medicines and Topical as well as oral decongestants.
Do not put anything in the ears as they may complicate the problem. The medicines will acts there too and you do not need another one for the ear problems.
Take steam inhalations and cough syrup if coughing is a problem.


IT is better to go for a CT scan of the sinuses.
