Suggest Treatment For Cough With Irritation In Throat

My son has been sick for the past four days, acting very tired and sleeping alot. (Which is very out of character for him.) His symptoms include a constant cough, but he says no irritation in his throat, he however has a red throat with yellow bumps on the back of it. I wouldnt worry so much if he didn't act so exhausted, and coughed till he is throwing up sometimes.. what should I do?

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi

Welcome to HealthcareMagic forum

The symptoms are of active Upper respiratory tract infection. My honest suggestion to you is to consult your doctor. Meanwhile, give him plenty of warm water to drink, if the child is above 5 years of age, encourage him do steam inhalation also, this will lighten the mucus and reduces the cough.

Child is throwing up because of the thick mucus getting struck in the throat. steam inhalation and consuming plenty of warm water will be beneficial. Also, use saline nasal spray to clear the mucus and OTC ibuprofen for pain relief.

Regards
