Suggest Treatment For Coughing Up Of Yellow Phlegm

I have been sick for 5 days now and seems to progressively get worse. I have been hoarse for 5 consecutive days, coughing up clear to yellow sputum. I went to ECU Family Care and they are treating me for a sinus infection, which honestly, I think it is more than this.

Hello,

As you have hoarseness of voice also, it can be Laryngitis like respiratory tract infection.

Your work up should be done as follows:
-Auscultation
-CBC
-Chest x ray only if needed

You need to give Levofloxacin like antibiotic course for 5 days. Avoid excess spicy foods. Steam inhalation done three times a day with warm water.

If inflammation is more, short term Betamethasone drug for 5 days can be prescribed. Consult the pulmonologist for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
