I have a dermatology issue. The skin on my fingers crack. I live in Maine and have suffered from chap fingers all my life. But now it seems to affect my thumbs. During the year, when my hands are clear. A calous will appear. And the skin will peal, and the layers of skin will continue till they eventually bleed. Right now both thumbs are affected. I thought it might be a fungal infection. It could be a contact alegy? The only relief I get is by using tape. Help?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history, you are having palmoplantar keratodermas. My treatment advice is - 1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a Clobetasol plus Salicylic acid cream like Clovate SL twice a day. 3. Take vitamin A supplement once daily for 3 months.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
