Hi.. I have a daughter aged 13 years old. She has been suffering from light to mild dandruff for the last 2 years. But just recently she has developed heavy dandruff with large white patches on her scalp. Despite how much we wash and shampoo or scratch the flakes away, they always reappear. Have tried different shampoos too. Please advise.
I can understand your concern for treatment for dandruff.
To tell you simply about dandruff: Our skin is multi-layered structure and gets renewed every day. In some persons it is renewed at a faster pace or because of hygiene. Also on scalp it is deposited in form of dead skin and then in form of scales gets entangled and trapped. These visible scales cause dandruff. It varies from person to person and also on other of factors which makes the difference inter-individually.
I suggest my patients to wash your scalp daily. In my patients I suggest them to apply first time shampoo for washing the hair part only, then rinse it off immediately with water. Reapply the shampoo again immediately, leave it for around 5 minutes, do a good gentle massage by your fingers for around 2-4 minutes and then wash it off. You will get good benefit by doing so for around 7 days.
All the best.
