Suggest Treatment For Dark Stools Due To Hernia

I was just told that I have ----hernia of the stomach. Have had black stools for a month now, and the came back today. The nurse suggested that I ihave a doctor check and see if I should have surgery. I am a healthy female, 83 years old, and take no medications.Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hernia of the stomach a hiatal hernia I think. This is a frequent finding in endoscopy or radiology, but I don't see an indication of surgery in your case, at least it depends in how big it is and in the symptoms it causes. As for your black stool I doubt if it was melena, a dangerous situation but qusi impossible for a month continuously. So I'd like to know for this new episode how black is your black and how times a day? Meanwhile a blood exam would be worthy, and as for the medication a try on Zantac two times a day would be o.k.
