Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Alcohol addiction is difficult to treat. To quit alcohol individual should have enough motivation to quit. When alcohol is stopped individual may suffer withdrawal symptoms inform of tremors, confusion, hallucinations etc. In some severe cases seizures (rum fits) or delirium may occur.

To prevent these side effects when an individual stop alcohol benzodiazepines like chlordiazepoxide, lorazepam etc are used. The drugs are usually tapered in about 5-6 days. To reduce craving maintenance phase drugs like Naltrexone, Acamprosate etc are used. You have to visit a psychiatrist for proper detailed prescription.

Alcohol self help groups are present in most of cities. Alcohol Anonymous is a group that can help you to come out of this addiction. You can search on google to find AA (alcohol anonymous) at your place.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
