Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have severe degenerative disk disease leading to herniation of cervical discs c3-4, c4-5, c5-6 and bulging of c2-3 and c6-7 as diagnosed by MRI. What are the surgical options for 3 herniated cervical discs? I have had pain for 15 years, am a full time nurse, and avoid narcotic pain meds except at night. It is actually the random but frequent tingling (like a thousand ants crawling on my right shoulder and arm) and numbness that are interfering with daily life and sleep, even more than the chronic pain. Is disk replacement an option? I DO NOT want to have to stop working. I love my job passionately. Also, I am only 44.

As per your explanation I suggest to visit the ortho doctor and since he has seen your report he will be able to guide you more on surgical option. As per me you have various option based on disc degeneration or herniation. One is you can go for disc disectomy here the doctor will just cut the herniated portion and will keep a patch to avoid further herniation and will pack it as it is. Second option is disc removal Third is they may do either of above two as well will fix up your spine with screw and plate for stability. Which will be more safe for future. Any thing above I suggest have explain in very simple words so you can understand but your ortho panic will explain you better with diagram or on spinal model. So strong recommendation do visit a good ortho doctor. Till the time you go for surgery you can also check with physio for some treatment and exercise for temporary relief if it helps. Hope you have got your answer. Take care
