Suggest Treatment For Dementia

My father is 86 years old and is in an assisted living facility. He has dementia, however, I don t know what stage, it is beyond initial and has elected to not take meds for it. He has been losing weight over the past 2 months, is gradually slowing down, and now nods off to sleep whenever he s sitting. Are these typical signs of demential progression?
