Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have currently been really depressed and having very little energy to do much of anything. I am 28 years old have two children the youngest being 1. I lost my mom year and half ago while I was 6 months preg and havnt dealt with that loss. I have also been unemployed since Aug of 2009 and my fiance ended up in hospital for 4 months this past year and I have been having to take care of him. Is there anything I can do to keep from being so depressed? I dont even feel like getting out of bed alot of times.
I can understand your concern. You are 28 years old mother with younger baby 1 year old. You have lost your mother just some months back and have no job. Your fiancé ended up in hospital and this is also a significant distressing factor. All these factors are causing significant distress and have resulted in depression. This is probably due to adjustment disorder. I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for proper help. Short term use of antidepressants like SSRIs can help to reduce these symptoms and will improve your functioning.
Try relaxation exercises at home. Relaxation exercises will reduce your anxiety and will help to improve confidence. Cognitive therapy is also having good efficacy in depression but for this you have to consult a psychologist for help.
Thanks, hope this helps you. Take Care
