Hello Dr. Chandan, I am a 60 years, Indian ethnic, female. About 2 weeks ago, I had little pain in left loin area. The very next day, it increased severly and I had vomitting 2 episodes after which I was rushed to ER of a hospital nearby. Docotrs diagnosed as UTI, although I had no fever, no dysuria or no increased urination frequency. I was tested for total blood count which showed slightly increased WBC count and Hemoglobin was lesser 10.9. USG of abdomen and pelvis showed no significant abnormality except my post cholecystectomy status which I had done 20 years ago. Urine routine showed increased Pus cell (which I dont understand the meaning) was 2-4/HPF. I had low sodium (126mg%). I was given Tab. Ofloxacin500 mg, inj. Drotaverin and Sodium added water and discharged. They did not order any further test, however I requested myself to them for Urine culture and sensititvity. However next day after my discharge, I had intense thirst, burning sensation in whole body. The pain was not there this time. The culture report arrived in the afternoon and it showed my bug was E.coli and resistant to ofloxacin but sensitive to Ceftriaxone. I was treated subsequently. My problem now is- After thorough investigation, my Blood glucose both Fasting, Post prandil were high. HbA1c was 8.1%. I had no test of diabetes before as I had never been ill. My hemoglobin is still on lower side (11.1 gm) this time. Sodium increased to 131mg%. Urine culture shows negative for any bug, but urine routine says I have WBC 4-6/HPF this time, negative for Acetone. Doctor, please help me understand what is going inside me? I am really worried for this. Thank you so much. I.D. Jha
