Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea And Stomach Pain

Hi, My daughter is a former 24 weeker (13 ounces when born). She was released from the hospital 1 week after 1st birthday with a tracheostomy, g-tube, oxygen and a cpap at night with a peep of 7. Currently, over the past couple of weeks, she has had on and off diarrhea (not consistant, 1 day she will, the next she won t), random fussiness with tearful episodes, extra mucous and today and yesterday, it is yellow. No fevers, desatting or HR issues. Could this just be teething or something more? I see part of her molars are in....

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

This symptoms of alternative diarrhea with mucus could be due to stomach infection or irritable bowel but very unlikely to be related to teething.

But it might need some medical attention but there is nothing serious here.

She may require to undergo routine blood count, electrolytes with clinical examination of abdomen or ultrasound of abdomen to rule out infection.

If diarrhea persists then she should be given short course of antibiotics (quinolones or cephalosporins or antiprotozoals etc.) with antiemetic, antispasmodics and with prebiotics and probiotics in syrup forms.

There will be some need of fluid and electrolyte balance in body for which you can take oral rehydration formula.

You must consult pediatrician for complete treatment.

Regards,
