Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is having diarrhea for almost 3 days now. Stool analysis shows Color: Brown Consistency: Loose Pus Cells: 20-25 /hpf Red Cells: 1-2 / hpf Undigested food: ++ No ova and cyst seen. Stool culture and sensitivity is under process. He has no fever but decreased milk, fluid and solid food intake.
1) your son has bacterial infection in intestine which developed diarrhea 2) according to report infect might be minimal as there is no presence of blood (blood in stool with infection indicate, spread of infection to deep layer of intestine) 3) stool culture report is essential in duch condition as it will be helpful to decide course of antibiotics 4) he reduced food intake due to overall weakness and crampy pain associated with diarrhes 5) in such cases, he require to be hospitalized for aggresive treatment (IV fluid support) to maintain hydration which is core part of treatment for diarrhea. In addition he also require antibiotic injections for intestinal infection and some medication to reduce diarrhea (only in sever diarrhea, as such medicine decrease bowel movement also)
