I am having problems with my esophagus. It seems to be a hereditary thing because some of my brothers and sister and nieces and nephews have it. My uncle had it as well. I do not know if others in my family have it. It started around mid 40s for me where I couldn t swallow well. It is only at times and seems to be more prevalent at night. But often with my meals, it happens. I have to pay close attention and drink something before too much gets caught up.If I dont drink something soon enough, my drink comes back up and I have to wait a while for the food or whatever to go down.
Hi. Thanks for your query and an elucidate history. Noted your history of necessity to drink something before too much gets caught up and have to drink later too. This problem runs in family as you have noted.
I would advise you the following: First of all, get a thick barium swallow test and then an upper GI endoscopy. CT scan of the esophagus to see if there is any extrinsic factor causing this problem. Also get blood tested for routine, sugar and all It is possible that you are suffering either from achalasia cardia or esophagospasm.
Once the diagnosis is clear, further management is possible.
