General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I can understand your concern. You had degenaretive changes in your cervical spine ,which was overstressed while at work. Now you are diagnosed as disc tear, With this damage to vertebral column, the nerve roots emerging from two vertebrae get compressed. This gives rise to pain in the parts supplied by nerves get painful. Treatment- Acute pain- Rest to the part.To maintain normal alinement/curve of cervical spine-( take a thin /soft pillow under neck & lie flat ,so as to support the neck ,at the same time avoid disturbing it's curve. - hot /cold compresses - Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs/local steroid injections. Maintenance - once pain is controlled- - avoid bending of neck, - physiotherapy to be done regularly to strengthen the neck muscles. Surgery- In uncontrolled/ un bearable pain, hampering routine of the person-surgery can be done. Thanks .
