ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi Sarbdeep. It seems from your description that inspite of your surgery in 2010, following the entry of some milk in your ears you developed an infection. This suggests that your eardrum may still be perforated and the entry of the milk has triggered another middle ear infection.

In my opinion I would advise you to have this looked into by your ENT specialist for further management. The sounds that you hear is also called as tinnitus. It is a condition where you can perceive a ringing or swishing sound even when there is no external stimuli. The cause for this is usually some damage to the auditory nerve due to exposure to loud sounds or due to some medications. It may have also occurred due to repeated ear infections.

The treatment involves oral antioxidants, Vitamin B12 capsules and the use of white noise maskers during sleep. There are also some hearing aids available in the market that can help mask your tinnitus with white noise and help you defocus your attention from the tinnitus. It is common that tinnitus worsens when you think about it too much even though it is hard to avoid.

Your tinnitus may disappear if the middle ear infection or your chronic ear disease is well managed. Do see an ENT and get this evaluated. Also get a hearing test to understand the status of your hearing nerve.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
