i have been getting a sharp pain in my ear that only lasts for a few seconds but is happening extremely frequently. It is very painful when it occurs. When i got my ears checked out the doctor said that my ear looks inflamed. When people talk they sound like robots and i hear a sharp echo that makes it painful to listen to people. The doctor i saw gave me Sandoz Opticort eardrops but they dont seem t be helping. Can you suggest anything to help with my pain?
Ear pain can be due to either earwax embedded in the ear canal or formation of fluid in the ear due to infection (acute otitis media) or common cold. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, if it is earwax that is causing you pain, it will be washed and cleaned in the OPD by the ENT. He may give you a wax cleaning ear drop (Otorex ear drop) to apply in the affected ear before doing the clinical procedure.
If it is due to infection, you will be treated with antibiotics and pain reducing ear drops. Presently, you can take Acetaminophen, one SOS when required to ease pain. Since you have hearing problem, you should get an audiometry test done to rule out any ear perforation (partial / complete).
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
