Suggest Treatment For Elevated Cholesterol Levels

My cholsterol was 5.6 on 30 Dec, now, after 2 months of intensive exercise (nearly every day 25 min run in park with press ups alongside & manual work in factory on night shift) it's 6.3. Im woman of 55, skinny, with flat belly & tonned body. Sholuld I see a specialist as Im not keen to get pills. Bo

Thank you for checking with HCM. Your total cholesterol is quite high and with the profile of yourself you describe, if you have a lipid problem, it is probably genetic. To gain specific direction I recommend that you have a fasting lipid profile done as it is the LDL-C and the HDL-C to be most concerned about with cholesterol. You should also in the lipid profile see what your triglycerides are. If you lipid profile shows reason for concern, the doctors are using statins more frequently than ever but still combined with diet, lifestyle modifications. You would want to lower your trans fat/saturated fat and increase water soluble fibers in general. After your lipid profile you will know if you should be concerned and the doctor will advise you of the best course of therapy. Thank you.
