Hi,

The most common cause of the high testosterone level at the girls of this age is policystic ovarian syndrome. It is usually associated with irregular menstrual cycle and the presence of the cysts in the ovaries. The treatment usually consists in taking contraceptive pills for a 6 months to 2 years period.

If the hair growth is abrupt and increasing, a tumor secreting testosterone should be excluded. The hormonal tests that should help in these cases are:

- Testosterone level
- DHEAS
- 17 OH progresterone
- Prolactine level
- TSH

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Dr. Mirejta
