I recently woke up with an enlarged thyroid, golf ball size. The size is much small and my hormone levels are fine. An Ultrasound showed several cysts and a few that showed some dark solids requiring a biopsy. My appointment is scheduled for November 28th with an endocrinologist. Is that too long for me to wait if the nodules are cancerous? Also, shouldn't an ENT perform the biopsy before I see the endocrinologist.
Hello, I can understand your concern. The biopsy of the thyroid nodules is not an emergency. If you do not have symptoms such as; difficulty in breathing or swallowing and the ultrasound showed cystic compound than no need to hurry up. Usually FNA is performed by endocrinologist or radiologist, ENT specialists do not have experience with FNA. Wish you good health. Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
