Hi! I was diagnosed with epididymitis about a year ago through an ultrasound. Blood tests for STDs came back negative. I took a batch of suprax which appeared to take care of it. It s back now and am wondering if another round of suprax is indicated, or whether since it came back, perhaps the first round didn t fully take care of the problem. I m concerned that this now falls into the chronic category. And if so, is this now a lifelong affliction with no cure? I m 58 and married. Thanks!
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of Epididymitis about a year back with all negative STDs and got alright with a course of suprax. Re-appearance after 1 year is called recurrence and not chronic. This may be due to new set of infection of the urinary tract/Prostate and so on. I would advise you the following: Send the samples of urine and semen for routine tests, culture and sensitivity to get an idea of better antibiotic , but since the report takes about 3 to 5 days, it is better that you start with Suprax again or whichever your Doctor prefers to get you started with. Also get an ultrasound and color doppler to get an idea and have an opinion of Urologist and continue treatment under his guidance.
