Suggest Treatment For Epilepsy In Temporal Lobe

Hi, I have been sick for some time I have had many blood tests but all showed ok. My problem started with what my doctor is now saying is a kind of elpilesy in the temporal lobe.I was having these spinning turns every three days but have been free of them since July 2010. I am currently on " Kepra" to control these turns but I am still extremely tired. I hope you can help me. Thanks Mally

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Temporal lobe epilepsy can explain those episodes and if you have been free of them after starting treatment it reinforces that. Keppra (levetiracetam) is a very good drug to control those seizures. I understand that you feel tired but that may be related to other factors since you have been seizure free. At times medications can cause side effects, but Keppra is one of the fewest side effects among antiepileptics.
So I wouldn't suggest to switch from Keppra to other medication. Keppra has prevented the seizures effectively which other drugs might not be able to and there is the likelihood of side effects with them as well.
If I really was to change I might consider stopping therapy. You have been seizure free for 5 years, so now an interruption of treatment may be considered. It depends from other factors though like whether there has been any abnormality on brain imaging which increases the likelihood of seizures, on present EEG report. Even if decided to interrupt it should be done very gradually under your neurologist's supervision.

I hope to have been of help.
