86 year old lady with prior history of esphogeal bleeds (3 months hospitalization and 2 surgeries 5 months ago) is now vomiting coffee-dark fluid. (Sudden onset) She is flush and hot (not cold) and has pain at the sternum. She has not tried standing, so it s unclear if she will be dizzy. Does this need ER attention, or is it something to monitor and wait til morning for her regular physician?
Hello, Yes this is an emergency. she needs to visit the ER immediately. The vomiting suggests upper GI bleed and she need immediate treatment and investigations to find the cause of the bleed. Hope this helps Regards Dr Samir Patil
