Suggest Treatment For Excessive Mucus And Constant Clearing Of Throat

I have 2 hart valves replaced and have developed lots off mucas seems had it a long time and seem to be trying to cough it up wont come up always always clearing throat so dr gave me perscption for loraterdin take it on and off as as am nervouse what the out come will be im 75 years young and want to live till my youngest grand son gets married his 7 so is it ok to continu for ever take them or tust on and off will it give me some problems with my hart can u tell me is it ok to continu thank u Sheila

Thank you for your question! Regarding your problem it doesn't seem that coughing can damage you heart valve function; the only problem could be with the chest sternal sutures of the surgical intervention; they sometimes exert problems like sternum dehiscence ad predispose to inflammation; a mucolytic drug such acetil cysteine would help to lighten your persistent cough.
