The plate s they put in my jaw are now exposed. The specialist I saw yesterday told me they should have replaced the bone they removed with a donor bone. But the doctors never even told me they removed a bone at all. Or for that matter even told me id have to have a donor bone implanted . now the plates exposed the specialist said I should be admitted to the hospital. But I told him I didn't want to go back to the same place that did the first surgery . So I need to wait for a referral to go to another hospital that the specialist and I agree would be better because they have the right equipment and specialist to do the surgery. what can happen to me while I wait. And what should I do.
Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The plates have been exposed because of the secondary infection at that site. Nothing to be panic, the plates can be removed either under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Usually the bone plates are removed when they get exposed into the oral cavity. Mean while you can take a course of antibiotics like amoxicillin 500mg and metronidazole 400mg tid for 5 days (if you are not allergic). Consult a oral maxillofacial surgeon and get it removed. I hope my answer will help you, take care.
