Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
It feels like my lower section of my heart is bruised, I have felt this for 2 days now. My heart has extra beats continually now for a month, I am short of breath and feel tired alot. I am on two blood pressure medications started 1st on 3 weeks ago and 2nd on a week ago. Blood work looks good.
These extra beats are nothing but the PVCs. Most of the times, these are benign and not dangerous. However, it's important that we rule out ischemia or structural heart disease as a cause of these. These are increased by smoking, excessive alcohol intake, excessive thyroid hormone levels, caffeine etc.
I think you should get thyroid profile done to rule out hyperthyroidism. Get done an echo if not done recently. If not done, the cardiac stress test like a treadmill test or stress thallium.
The treatment for this is beta blockers like tab. Metoprolol XL. So you should ask your doctor to include beta blockers as one of the antihypertensive and if already on then dose should be increased or antiarrhythmic may be added if too troublesome. So you should this prescribed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sagar Makode,
Cardiologist
