Suggest Treatment For Extreme Itching On Neck And Chest In Elders
My 89 yr mom had many infections over the last 3 years, and had iv antibiotics as well asoral antibiotics. One week afterthe last treatment, she developed extreme itching firston the neck and the upper chest. I gave her antihistamines, applied vit e lotion and erythromicin cream. At first the antihistamine worked 12 hours although it was meant for 24 hours. Then I also put alcohol and betadine but still the itching continued. Then I remembered our dog tickshad not been treated for some time and because her bed is on the ground floor she may have been infected by people who come inside her room with dirty shoes and sandals. Or, our helper who gives her some kind of bath ( with a towel) may have used something dirty;
With a recurrent infection over the last 3 years i would advise you to get your mother's blood sugar levels along with Hb1Ac checked. If she is an undiagnosed Diabetic patient then they have a higher predisposition to infections even from non-bacterial sources like fungi.
Secondly her itching may have a neuronal origin i.e it would be due to some nerve misfiring along the area of itching.
One more possibility is her blood proteins(Albumin and globulins) and SGOT/SGPT are reduced which may be an indication of reduced liver function.
Therefore after these investigations are done we can evaluate her and have a concrete diagnosis.
