Suggest Treatment For Facial Swelling After Sunscreen Use

Hi my daughter had a red sweling face after I applied some suncream on her face on Monday. she had taken anti-allergic medication twice today. see seems a little bit better than this morning, but still very swelling. what should I do now? please advise, Thanks a mill.

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your daughter's history and would like to make suggestions for her as follows:

1. I would first think of an allergic reaction to sunscreen from your history. I would suggest her anti-histamine like hydroxyzine or cetirizine or diphenhydramine for 3-5 days depending upon response.

Please note that these drugs may cause sedation.

2. I usually also suggest my such patients application of a lotion like calamine over the itchy areas.

3. Please do not scratch the itchy areas as it would aggravate itching.

4. If she is not improved with above, I would suggest you to get her examined by a doctor who may prescribe oral or local corticosteroids.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to her.
