Hello!
Thank you for asking on HCM!
I understand your concern and would like to explain that these symptoms seem to be related to depression.
You should know that stroke is associated with a high percentage of depression and cognitive dysfunction, related to the brain cells damage and the motor deficits, leading to a decrease of the life quality.
I recommend performing some lab tests (
complete blood count, kidney and liver function tests, thyroid hormone levels, cortisol plasma levels, blood electrolytes, fasting glucose, urine analysis, etc.) to exclude possible metabolic disorders, related to this symptomatology.
If all the above test result normal, I advise to consult with his
psychiatrist, to consider the possibility of making some changes to antidepressant therapy (increase the dose or try a different antidepressant).
Psychotherapy would be helpful in this situation.
If he has motor deficits,
physiotherapy would also be helpful for the body and mind (it helps increase the activity of brain cells and increase the
neurotransmitters levels in the brain, like antidepressant therapy).
Hope to have been of help!
Best regards,
Dr. Iliri
