Suggest Treatment For Fever And Red Blotches On Body In A Child

Hello, My six year old has been sick for the last few days and running a low grade fever, between 99.5-100.8. About an hour ago I went to check on her and saw that she had big red blotches all over her neck and chest. As I looked further I saw that she has them all over her body... and very very large ones on front, side, and back of torso. she still has a low fever (100.2) She does have food allergies but didn't eat anything for the last 6 hours. she is in good spirit and says that the blotches don't itch her? What do you recomend ...? E.R. or M.D. Office in the morning

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

Looks like toxic urticaria or allergy due to fever. This happens sometimes in viral illness. Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.

You can treat fever with Paracetamol at 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly if fever is > 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever as usually most combination medicines combine Paracetamol with NSAIDs and is not advisable.

But with a history of food allergy, I suggest you go to emergency room immediately.
