Suggest Treatment For Fever And Seizure In A Child
My son is 5 year 5 month old. Last Thursday that is 18 of June he got high fever and had fits for 1 minute. Before he never had fits. We rushed to hospital doctor gave medicine. That is frisium 5 mg 1/2 tablet in the morning and 1/2 in the night for 3 days. And he advised to consult neurologist. Neurologist told us to do EEG. And report says Abnormal awake EEG. So doctor told to take ENCORATE SYRUP (sodium valproate IP 200 mg)one and half ml in the morning and same dose in night. Then after ten days to increase to two and half ml. I want to know is there any need to give him medicine because he had only one seizure. If needed then is there any side effects of this medicine. I did not started medicine now. Please reply.
Hi, your child has seizure during high fever which was diagnosed as febrile seizure and frisium for 3 days was given. However, the EEG should be normal in febrile seizure so the diagnosis is revised as seizure disorder and encorate was started. You need to start the medicine because if EEG is abnormal there are chances of subsequent seizures. The medicine will probably continue for 2 years. Also an MRI brain needs to be done.
