Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had diarrhea since last Sunday, the 12th. I believe it is food poisoning from a pork chop I had purchased a week prior and had eaten on he 11th. My M.D. thinks its gastroenteritis, but never checked a stool specimen. This morning I felt funny and my BP was 107;63with a pulse of 103. This evening it was 147/78 with a pulse of 83. I have been getting at least 8 glasses of water every day and sometimes more. Should I be concerned about my BP. I just took two lycopene, two potassium and one 250 mg. of potassium. Thank you very much
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of having old pork and having diarrhea since last Sunday. If the MD is thinking this is gastroenteritis, a form of food poisoning, you should get a specific treatment with antibiotics, probiotics, activated charcoal tablets and electrolytes orally if there is no nausea or vomiting. Get a stool and blood test to help a better diagnosis, watch for additional symptoms like bloating, pain in abdomen and fever. You have to get an additional treatment for such symptoms. If the progress is bad, please get admitted as you may then need intravenous treatment.
